October 18, 2025 / CanCham Shanghai

On September 28 – 29, Dr. Mark CeolinChair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai was honoured to represent CanCham Shanghai at the exclusive Meeting of Canadian Chambers of Commerce in the Indo-Pacific, hosted within Canada’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.

Over the course of two days of strategic discussions, Chamber leaders from across the region gathered to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. Representatives from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Pearl River Delta, Macau, Taiwan; Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Laos shared insights on advancing Canadian business opportunities throughout this dynamic economic corridor.

A key focus was mentorship and collaboration between established Chambers and emerging ones—ensuring that decades of market expertise from larger, more mature operations help accelerate growth for newer Chambers. This knowledge-sharing approach strengthens Canada’s entire trade network across the Indo-Pacific, including our vital economic partnerships in China.

Key highlights:

  • Cross-regional collaboration frameworks
  • Market entry strategies for Canadian SMEs
  • Strengthened trade promotion networks
  • Enhanced support systems for emerging markets

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai is grateful to work alongside exceptional leaders, including Paul Thoppil (Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative & incoming High Commissioner to Singapore), Trevor Kennedy (VP Asia-Pacific, Business Council of Canada), Barrett Bingley (Asia Regional Director, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada), Matthew Holmes (EVP, Canadian Chamber of Commerce), Katrin Spence (Deputy Director – Team Canada Trade Missions) and Reynolds Lauer (Advisor to Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative).

As the largest chamber in the Chinese Mainland, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai continues to be a proud bridge connecting Canadian excellence with Asia’s dynamic markets.
