CanCham Shanghai is led by a Board of Directors composed of 11 elected directors and 1 ex-officio director. The directors are either Canadian MNCs’ representatives or Canadian entrepreneurs running their own business in China. They represent Canadian industrial diversity and strength on the business scene in China. Board members are responsible for forming and driving the policies as well as providing guidance on all the activities of the Chamber.
Canadian Consul General in Shanghai
Weldon Epp joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1996 as a foreign service officer, working first with the China and Mongolia Division and the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Division. In Ottawa, Mr. Epp has also served in the Assignments Division and as director of the Policy Research Division. Abroad, he served in Beijing as second secretary and vice-consul, in Taipei as director (political/economic), in Jakarta as counsellor (political/economic) and, on short assignments, in Geneva, Islamabad and Phnom Penh. Most recently, Mr. Epp was consul general in Guangzhou. He is completing a professional master of public administration degree at Queen’s University. Mr. Epp is married to Kristi Dyck, and they have three children: Erin, Ian and Graeme.

Mr. Bogar is a graduate of the Ivey School of Business at Western University from where he obtained his HBA and MBA degrees. He is the Managing Director of MGI Pacific in Shanghai and founder of Property Passbook and has held a variety of leadership positions in the commercial real estate industry. Mr. Bogar is often quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Post, Global Times, and many other leading financial publications on topics related to China and the global real estate market. Mr. Bogar believes strongly in the importance of corporate responsibility and holds several leadership positions as both a Director for the Ivey School of Business and as the Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. He has lived in Shanghai for over 7 years and speaks fluent Chinese.

General Manager Soprema China
Olivier is the General Manager of Soprema in China, an international group specialized in providing waterproofing solutions for the construction industry. Olivier was born in Montreal and graduated from McGill University in Engineering. He started early on a global path by doing part of his bachelor degree at Spain’s Salamanca University, one of Europe’s oldest university, and right after graduation he joined the management team of a Canadian medical device company for the acquisition of a company in Italy. Following the takeover, Olivier was directly involved in transferring the company’s activities to Shanghai, creating a base for affordable manufacturing of HIV diagnostic tests for the Chinese market. In 2008, he became the general manager of a Canadian aerospace company aiming to reduce airlines’ carbon footprint through innovative product design. In 2012, Olivier joined Soprema and was appointed to the board of directors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. Olivier is now Vice-Chair of the Chamber.

Graduated from Simon Fraser University Business Administration Faculty, I got designated as Certified General Accountants in 2007 and worked for two Certified General Accounting firms in Vancouver before moving back to hometown Shanghai in 2010. Since then, I have worked for Sichuan Trust Ltd. as a trust manager and just joined Glorious Property Holdings Ltd. Finance division leading its private equity product department. I’ve donated most of my free time to NPOs. I have served as a board of director, secretary, at Canadian Chartered Professional Accountants Association Shanghai Chapter (formerly known as Canadian Certified General Professional Accountants Association Shanghai Chapter) for the past 5 years and served Canadian Chamber of Commerce as its treasurer since 2016. Recently I co-foundered Puggy Children Aesthetic Education Center, a NPO focused on early childhood aesthetic and music education.

Jim Athanasopoulos joined IMAX Corporation in May 2000 and relocated with his family from Toronto to Shanghai in July 2011 to become the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President Corporate Operations of IMAX China. IMAX, an innovator in entertainment technology, combines proprietary software, architecture and equipment to create experiences that take you beyond the edge of your seat to a world you’ve never imagined. Top filmmakers and studios are utilizing IMAX theatres to connect with audiences in extraordinary ways, and, as such, IMAX’s network is among the most important and successful theatrical distribution platforms for major event films around the globe. As of December 31, 2013 there were 860 IMAX theatres in 58 countries including 172 theaters in Greater China.

Russel Aydin is a business lawyer with practical legal experience in Canada, Australia, India and China. Before joining Jade & Fountain PRC Lawyers, Russel had over 5 years of experience at a Canadian business law firm in Vancouver, Canada.
Russel is currently licensed to practice with the Law Society of British Columbia. He is able to assist clients with outbound deals in the Canadian market, immigration inquiries, investments into both Canadian residential and commercial real estate, estate inquiries and notarizations of Canadian legal documentation.

Mr. Donghai Du is the Chief Representative and Managing Director of the Canpotex Shanghai office. Before relocating to Shanghai, Donghai was based in Vancouver as the Director of Marketing in China. Prior to joining Canpotex, Donghai held the role of General Manager (China), at InfoMine in mining investment and consulting, and Commercial Director of Eramet China, selling raw materials for steel production. In early days of his career, Mr. Du worked in various marketing positions at Rio Tinto China including Chief of the Energy Division. Donghai graduated from Beijing University and obtained his Ph.D. in geology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Ms. Greenizan is the Innovation Lead for McCain Foods China, a division of McCain Foods Ltd, one of Canada’s largest and most multinational food companies. Specializing in the production frozen food products, specifically frozen potatoes and French fries, McCain Foods has a broad product portfolio that delights consumers on a daily basis.
Jackie relocated to Shanghai from Toronto in 2007. She has been working for Canadian businesses with interests in Asia since 1990. Jackie holds a BAH from Queen’s University, a diploma from The McCrae Institute at Capilano Colllege and an MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business, Jackie brings a broad range of Canadian and Asian experience to her roles.

I have a business background and entrepreneurial spirit which is the reason I came to China to find new challenges. Jean-François Lépine is Director of Québec offices in China. He was a foreign correspondent for CBC/Radio-Canada in Beijing, Paris and Jerusalem from 1982 to 1990. From 1990 to 2013, he hosted several popular public affairs television programs including Enjeux, Le Point, Zone libre and the international magazine Une heure sur terre, which also aired on TV5 Monde. Until November 2015, he was also chair of the Middle Eastern and North African Observatory at the Université du Québec à Montréal and a member of Montréal International’s Board of Directors. His outstanding work both has been recognized by numerous awards. In June 2012, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada.

Gina immigrated to Canada in 1999, and was on the Dean list when she graduated with Honors from an MBA program in 2004. She was recognized by the ethnic communities, and has received the “Outstanding Professional Award” from Fairchild TV.

She then joined Westbank in 2009 and after proposing to explore the Asian market, she was appointed to Shanghai in 2011 and started from scratch. Over the years, she has built a strong network, team and respectful reputation for Westbank all over China. Westbank is the first and only Canadian real estate developer that has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Taiwan and HK, with a long term relationship with many wealthy clients, organizations and institutions.

Ms. ZHANG Kai became President and CEO of Manulife-Sinochem in February 2016, before that, she was EVP and Head of Consumer Bank at Citi China. Kai has over 20 years of financial services experience in North America and Asia. She joined Citi’s Corporate Strategy and M&A Group in New York in 2004, and later took the role of Regional Head of Sales and Distribution with Citi Asia Pacific Consumer Bank in 2006. Prior to joining Citi, Ms. Zhang worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company (New York) and an actuarial analyst with Watson Wyatt Worldwide (Washington, D.C.)
Kai holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Economics from Mount Holyoke College. She was born and raised in Nanjing before moving to the United States to pursue her undergraduate and graduate studies. She returned to China since early 2008 and is now based in Shanghai. She is married with two children.
