CanCham Shanghai at the Canada-in-Asia Conference
On February 26-29th, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, in partnership with Universities Canada, hosted the Canada-in-Asia Conference in Singapore. CanCham Shanghai was well and fully represented on the ground by Executive Director Matt Whately and board directors Paul Moysiuk and Eric Rupert.
The event was hosted by almost 20 Canadian Chambers from across the region, in addition to senior trade officials based across the Indo-Pacific, as well as from Ottawa and throughout Canada. Beyond this, many Canadian businesses, agencies, crown corporations, provincial representatives, and other prominent Canadians rounded out the impressive guest list.
The primary motivation of the event was to connect Canadians across the region to identify ways and means to increase the standing of Canada in the Indo-Pacific.
Part of the conference was a discussion between representatives of Canadian Chambers in the region and Global Affairs Canada’s Sara Wilshaw, Canada’s Chief Trade Commissioner, and Paul Thoppil, Canada’s Indo Pacific Trade Representative. Special address by Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development kicked off the meeting. It was an opportunity to share ideas, vision, best practices, and extend collective efforts to strengthen cross-border trade and investment possibilities.

Overall, the conference was a success in kickstarting new, wider opportunities for all Canadians. We look forward to following up on outcomes, and taking the energy found at the conference forward throughout the upcoming year.
