Event Recap: CanCham Annual General Meeting 2021

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce held its 2021 Annual General Meeting on March 31st. We would like to thank our members for joining both in person and online. We would also like to thank Hyatt Regency Global Harbour for hosting us as well as special thanks to Asian Tigers, our logistics sponsor and Pistolera, our beer sponsor.

During the AGM, Dave Murphy, the Honorary President of CanCham gave his congratulations and gratitude to all CanCham members, the Board of Directors, the Advisory Council, CanCham committees and the Executive Team of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for their hard work and accomplishments in 2020. 

The Executive Director, Matt Whately, spoke on behalf of Chair Kai Zhang, recapping the trials, tribulations, and ultimate successes of the Chamber over the year of 2020. Following the speech by the Chair, the 2019-2021 Board of Directors was formally dissolved. CanCham thanked Kai Zhang, Mikael Charette, Jean-Christian Brillant, Novax Mao, Mark Ceolin, Donghai Du, Gabriel Lagunes, Jean-François Lépine, Veronique Gong, Olivier Brault, and Tony Jaw for their service and contribution to the chamber and to the Canadian business community at large with a plaque ceremony.

Following this, the CanCham 2021-2023 Board of Directors Nominees were invited to the stage to make their presentations to the membership.

CanCham thanks all nominees for their participation and passion!

During the event, Executive Director Matt Whately presented the 2020 Annual Report, outlining the activites of the Chamber throughout the year, including a membership status overview, and events recap. Treasurer Novax Mao presented a financial update, which outlined a largely successful year despite the hardships brought on by the pandemic. Finally, Matt Whately also introduced CanCham’s upcoming Marquee Events, as well as what to expect in 2021.

CanCham’s Platinum Members then took center stage with representatives of Manulife-Sinochem, Canpotex, CN, Air Canada, Red Gate, CP, and Teck invited to receive commemorative awards, thanking them for their contributions to the Chamber in 2020. CanCham’s Platinum Members are the sturdy rudder of our Chamber!

We thank our Members again for their commitment in 2020, and hope to see you at CanCham’s upcoming seminars, community outings, and marquee events, including Canada Day on June 26!
