New Membership Category | Community Membership
CanCham is pleased to introduce two new membership categories for the year 2025: Community Membership and Student & Alumni Membership. These additions are designed to offer new ways to engage with the Chamber.
About Community Membership:
This membership category provides an excellent opportunity for those who want to connect with like-minded individuals, engage in enriching events, and contribute to the Canadian community in Shanghai.
Benefits of Community Membership:
- Discounts: Enjoy CanCham member pricing for a wide range of Chamber events, from networking nights to community celebrations and professional workshops.
- Engagement: Be part of a vibrant community that values collaboration, cultural exchange, and professional growth.
Limitations of Community Membership:
- Some events are reserved for Professional and Corporate Members only.
- Community Members do not have voting rights in Chamber elections.
- Community Members are not eligible to run for the CanCham Board of Directors or join Chamber Committees.

> I am currently an Individual Member, is it still valid?
Yes, it is valid. CanCham is adding two new membership categories while other categories remain unchanged.
Please note, “Individual” is now renamed to “Professional Individual”, “Associate Individual” is now “Professional Associate Individual”.
> Can I upgrade my membership to the Professional Individual category?
Yes, you may upgrade your membership to a higher category at a prorated rate.
> Can I downgrade my current membership to the community category?
No, but you can renew your membership in a different category at the time of expiry.
> I am a Young Professional Member, how does it affect me?
Your membership is still valid. If you prefer Community Membership, you can renew in a different category at the time of expiry.
> Can I receive a discount on CanCham events as a Community Member?
Yes, you can receive discounts on most CanCham events. For discount information, please refer to the actual event registration page.
> Can I run as a nominee for the CanCham Board as a Community Member?
No, Community Members are not eligible to run for the CanCham Board. If you wish to do so, you must hold a Professional Individual Membership or Corporate Membership, which are eligible for board candidacy.
> Can I participate in the CanCham Committee as a Community Member?
No, Community Members are not eligible to participate in the CanCham Committee. If you wish to participate, you must upgrade to a Professional Individual Membership or Corporate Membership, which are eligible for committee participation.
> Can I cancel my CanCham membership after payment?
No, CanCham memberships are non-refundable and will expire 12 months after the date of activation.
