Mayor of Victoria Visits Shanghai

On October 27, 2012, CanCham Shanghai hosted a luncheon for the Mayor of Victoria Dean Fortin and his delegation. The luncheon was part of the Victoria delegations’ mission to strengthen the economic and educational ties to China. During the trip the Chamber also worked with the Greater Victoria Development agency to connect the delegates with local partners. More

Seminars on Investing in Canadian Property

In response to the demand for more information on investment in Canada CanCham hosted set of seminars focusing on real estate investment and its legal and tax implications.

The seminar held on November 1 in partnership with CBRE Ltd. (Canada) took a look at trends in the Current Canadian property market investment activities, the activities, the outlook for Vancouver and Canada as well as emerging legal issues for foreign investors.

On November 29th, REDEV presented a seminar focusing on Canadian tax requirements for non-residents interested in investing in Canadian properties.


Canadian Consulate Briefing

The Canadian Consul General Rick Savone and his team at the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai gave CanCham and CCBC members an update on the latest business, economic, political, cultural and consular news.


New Seminar: China’s current OFDI restrictions

This December CanCham Shanghai and Troutman Sanders will be hosting a talk on China’s current OFDI restrictions and how they are likely to evolve in the near term.

This seminar will be of interest to any parties seeking a clearer understanding of the approval procedures, timelines and uncertainties that will confront any Chinese investor planning an investment overseas, including Canada. More

B+H Gifts Pavilion to the City of Shanghai

To thank China for the opportunities they have been given over the past 20 years, B+H Architects has designed and gifted a pavilion to Daning Lingshi Park. Design of the pavilion was led by Canadian architect David Stavros and was inspired by icons of Chinese culture such as silk cocoons and Chinese lanterns.

Since coming to China in 1992, B+H has worked on over 180 projects in China.More

Quebec Deputy Prime Minister Leads Trade Mission to China

The Deputy Premier of Québec and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, François Gendron led a trade mission to China from November 12 to 16, 2012. He was joined by representatives of thirty Québec companies. Participants traveled to Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Shanghai to meet with local business leaders and to take part in activities related to the aerospace, cosmetics and food sectors. More in French or English


BC’s Trade and Investment Seminars Attract over 300 Business Leaders and Media

In October, the BC Trade and Investment Office in Shanghai hosted investment promotion seminars in Ningbo, Shanghai and Nanjing. Speaking to a full house at each city, speakers from British Columbia’s private and public sectors discussed BC’s competitive advantages. More.

Collier’s Releases The Asia Office Leasing Market Confidence Index

The Asia Office Leasing Market Confidence Index recently released by Colliers International registered 55.1% in 3Q 2012, edging down from 64.2% in the previous quarter. Though the index was lower than 2Q 2012, it remained at above 50%, a clear indication of the positive overall sentiment in the office leasing market. More

Bombardier & COMAC Strengthen Collaboration

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (COMAC) and Bombardier Inc. announced the successful completion of the Phase I of an agreement signed in March to jointly develop common components used by their respective aircraft.

University of Toronto Prof Discover Genetic Pattern that Predicts Time of Death

University of Toronto professor and his team of scientists have found a gene mutation that not only determines whether or not you are a morning person but also predicts the time of day when someone is likely to die.

According to the study, those with the AA or AG genotype are more likely to be early risers and are also likely to die just before 11am. Meanwhile, those with the GG genotype wake up later and are more likely to die in the evenings (around 6pm to be exact). More

Savour Canada Showcases the Best of Canadian Food Products

A special Savour Canada event hosted by Consul General Rick Savone took place at the 16th Food and Hotel China Exhibition on November 14. Local TV personality and celebrity chef Clinton Zhu, who is Canadian-trained and best known for judging Dragon TV’s Master Chef competition, conducted a cooking demonstration for approximately 80 invited guests, including media, importers, and retailers. Using Canadian ingredients such as pork, beef, canola, maple syrup, Saskatoon berries, icewine, fish and seafood, Chef Zhu created a number of Chinese-Canadian fusion dishes. More


North American Premiere Wine Shop Celebrates its First Anniversary in Shanghai
