Position Title:  Non-Immigration Officer (NIO), LE-06/07, Immigration Section in Guangzhou

Closing Date:  2015.5.13Starting Annual Gross Salary:  Approximately RMB 118,740 (before designation) / 155,678 (upon designation); before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and social benefit premium are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable

Location: Guangzhou

Area of Selection:

  • Canadian citizens residing in China;
  • Spouses/dependants of Canadian-Based Staff at Canadian Embassy or Consulates in China.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Guangzhou at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Guangzhou at own expense. Candidates for NIO designation are normally expected to complete a minimum 6 months fully satisfactory employment at the LE-06 level, followed by successful completion of a training course in Ottawa. Background screening is a requirement all candidates for formal designation must satisfy. Designation is mandatory for this position.

Job summary:

Under general supervision, implements Canadian immigration policy and objectives; assesses and processes applications for non-immigrant visas and permits; prevents the travel to Canada of individuals in possession of fraudulent or fraudulently obtained documentation; provides management assistance and supervises staff; participates in research for the preparation of reports and studies on immigration-related issues; represents the immigration program in contacts with nationals, host country officials and international organizations; performs other duties as required.

Mandatory requirements:

Education:

  • Degree from a recognized university

Language:

  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)

Experience:

  • Experience in dealing with the general public
  • Experience in working both independently and within a team to accomplish goals

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Canadian geography, labour market and educational system
  • Knowledge of Chinese geography, labour market and educational system

Asset Criteria:

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

Language:

  • Proficiency in French (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Proficiency in Cantonese (reading, writing and speaking)

Experience:

  • Experience in supervising staff

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Canadian immigration policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of Chinese laws (i.e. family law, penal code), customs and documentation

Operational Requirement:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required;
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China is a condition of your employment at the Embassy or Consulates

Security / Reliability:

A valid “Reliability Status” security check is required prior to appointment to this position.
