BISS Pudong Careers and University Fair – Volunteer to inspire students!

At 3.20pm on the 13th March the British International School Shanghai (BISS), Pudong will open the doors of our second annual Careers and University Fair. We will have university representatives from around the world available to speak to our students and parents. This will be a particularly important opportunity for our Upper and Senior school students and their families. Already confirmed are top universities like Hong Kong University, New York University, University of British Columbia and Sydney University and there will also be a number of top UK universities.

Last year there was a great range of careers and companies represented and we are looking for bigger and better this year. If you would like to have a “stall” at the fair and talk to interested students and their parents then please let me know, it will be fantastic to hear from you. It really does help our young people to talk to volunteers that are working in the careers and industries that they may be thinking about for their own futures – who knows, the industry they choose may be yours! Calling All netballers: BISS Netball League Kicks Off

An adult netball league has kicked off at the British International School Shanghai (BISS), Pudong – new players, regardless of level, are always welcome.

January 2015 marked the start of the new adult netball league to be held at BISS Pudong. The league is a development one, meaning that complete beginners are able to join in, as well as those who have played since they were little.

Two rounds of the league have been played so far, and while some players are quite experienced, there are several players who are revisiting the sport after a considerable break. After the first match, a number of participants walked away from the session with a rekindled enthusiasm for the sport and an eagerness to start playing it competitively.

New players are always welcome – if you are interested to know more about the league, please email Tamla Sparkes at t-sparkes@bisspudong.com.

Joining the school on January 1st 2015, Lesley-Ann has returned to Shanghai from the United Arab Emirates where she was Principal of The British International School Abu Dhabi.During four very successful years at BIS Abu Dhabi, Lesley-Ann led the school to grow into the most popular school in the Emirate. Under her leadership, the school gained IB accreditation, developed world-class facilities, built a strong record of academic achievement and a vibrant school community.
Prior to leading BIS Abu Dhabi, Lesley-Ann was founding principal of the primary school at sister school, The British International School Shanghai, Puxi, for over five years. She also previously held leadership roles at the Gulf English School Kuwait and Garden International School Malaysia.
Passionate about creating school spirit and parent engagement, together with a focus on constant improvement, Lesley-Ann is ideally placed her to build upon BISS Pudong’s many successes. She explains, “As a leader, I have a passion for developing others. I have high expectations and am constantly driving towards improvement. I believe strongly in collaborative learning and see a large part of my role as supporting parent partnerships in the school.”
Lesley-Ann moves back to Shanghai with her husband Noel and their two children, bringing with her a unique understanding of raising children in an international environment. Lesley-Ann says, “My children were both born overseas, in fact the first in Malaysia and the second in Kuwait, and we have lived as a family in several countries, but never my home country. I know just how important it is that schools prepare children for the inevitable transitions as they move from one system to another, as well as ensuring that any gaps in learning are quickly identified and bridged.”
Lesley-Ann holds a National Professional Qualification for Headship and will soon begin training to become an Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
As The British International School Shanghai, Pudong reaches its next stage of development, the unique talents Lesley-Ann brings will enhance its position as the leading school in Pudong.
