Under the supervision of the Consular Officer, providing assistance and information to visiting or resident Canadians through the delivery of passport and citizenship services; collecting and accounting for passport, citizenship and notarial fees; providing information of a general nature to the Canadian public; and, assisting with other related consular duties as required.

Starting Annual Gross Salary:  Approx. 122,019 RMB (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)
Location: Shanghai

Area of Selection:

  • Chinese or Canadian citizens residing in China;
  • Term or indeterminate employees currently working at Canadian Embassy or Consulates in China; and,
  • Spouses/dependants of Canadian-Based Staff at Canadian Embassy or Consulates in China.
  • Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Shanghai at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Shanghai at own expense.

 

Mandatory requirements: 

Education:

  • Degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience.

Language:

  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking);
  • Proficiency in French (reading, writing, speaking); and
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (speaking).

Experience:

  • Minimum one year’s experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service.

Abilities/skills:

  • Ability to write effective business correspondence in English and French using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to perform verbal translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa.

Asset Criteria:

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

Language:

  • Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing).

Experience:

  • Extensive experience with data entry.

Knowledge:

  • General knowledge of Canada;
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to foreign citizens in China.

Operational Requirement:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required;
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as required;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China is a condition of your employment at the Embassy or Consulates.

Security / Reliability:

  • A valid “Reliability Status” security check is required prior to appointment to this position.
