Starting Annual Gross Salary: Approx. 196,406 RMB (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable) Location: Shanghai

Area of Selection:

  • Chinese or Canadian citizens residing in China;
  • Term or indeterminate employees currently working at Canadian Embassy or Consulates in China; and,
  • Spouses/dependants of Canadian-Based Staff at Canadian Embassy or Consulates in China.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Shanghai at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Shanghai at own expense.

Job summary:

The Economic Affairs Service of the Québec Government Offices is a network of professionals dedicated to promoting Quebec’s international trade. These professionals work with the public and private sectors to identify both trade opportunities and barriers so as to take the necessary steps to facilitate trade. As a member of the Economic Affairs Service, you will help promote Quebec’s global trade by, among other things, developing and sharing knowledge of the markets; providing services, advice and information to clients; establishing relationships with local clients and contacts; solving problems as they arise, as well as planning and holding activities.

Mandatory requirements:

Education:

  • Degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:

  • Proficiency in French (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)

Experience:

  • At least three years’ experience in international commerce
  • Experience in dealing with the general public and customer/client service
  • Experience in working and liaising with Chinese government agencies and companies.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of international business (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer)

Abilities/skills:

  • Ability to write professional reports and business correspondence in French and Chinese
  • Ability to provide strategic advice and make recommendations
  • Ability to perform translation and interpretation from Chinese to French and vice versa

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

Language:

  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)

Experience:

  • Experience in working with visiting business and/or government delegation

Knowledge:

Knowledge of relevant topics such as Canadian and Chinese trade and investment business environment and practices; major areas and/or sectors of international trade; and/or Chinese government and industry structures, major economic and political issues

Operational Requirement:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required;
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China is a condition of your employment at the Embassy or Consulates

A valid “Reliability Status” security check is required prior to appointment to this position.
