JOB SUMMARY: The Commercial Officer will contribute to advancing Albertaa��s global commerce by, among others, developing and sharing knowledge of the market place; providing service, advice and information to clients; building relationships with clients and local contacts; doing troubleshooting; planning and executing events as well as planning and managing budgets. Under the general direction of the Senior Commercial Office, Alberta Shanghai Office, designs and coordinates with other regional Alberta International Offices and Alberta international marketing and industry development groups, marketing programs to exploit the local trade and investment potential for Alberta; researches and prepares both general and specific market studies and statistical reports relating to Alberta Trade and Investment activitiesA� in the region; using independent judgment and action, advises on and assists in the implementation of trade and investment promotion programs including logistical arrangements for incoming visits and other events; prepares written replies to inquiries on designated sectors from Alberta businesses, local business and Government officials; compiles market/ intelligence information for Alberta businesses; provides both written and oral interpretation in the Chinese language for the Senior Commercial Officer, Alberta Shanghai Office; assists other Alberta Commercial Officers and assistants as directed by the Senior Commercial Office, Alberta Shanghai Office.


  • DegreeA�from a recognized university, OR anA�acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience.


  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)


  • At least three yearsa�� experience in international commerce;
  • Experience in dealing with the general public and customer/client;
  • Experience in working and liaising with Chinese government agencies and companies.


  • Knowledge of international business (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer)


  • Ability to write professional reports and business correspondence in English;
  • Ability to provide strategic advice and make recommendations;
  • Ability to perform translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa.
