China, Canada to Build Two Nuclear Reactors in Romania

OTTAWA: Canada’s SNC-Lavalin and China Nuclear Power Engineering Company announced a deal Friday (25 July) to build two nuclear reactors in Romania.

“Today’s agreement deepens our strong ties with both the Romanian and Chinese nuclear industries, as Candu reactors have operated in both countries for more than a decade.”

The Candu reactors will be built at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania, which already houses two of the Canadian-designed power plants that produce nearly 20 per cent of Romania’s electricity supply, according to a statement.
