Celebrating 10 Years at BISS Puxi

The British International School Shanghai, Puxi campus is celebrating its 10th year, and last week hosted a ceremony to mark the occasion, with special guests and some fabulous entertainment from students from across the school. Guests included founding students and parents, who have been with the school since it opened, as well dignitaries and media.

The afternoon began with all the guests learning about the history of the school by looking through the 10 year timeline that is currently on display, tracking the history of the school over the years. This was then followed by the official ceremony where the Principal, Mr Kevin Foyle, made a speech where he talked about the history of the school, its heritage, the journey it’s been on and plans for the future. One of the founding students who is now in Year 13, Chloe Tytherleigh, said a few heart felt words about her time at BISS Puxi, including her fondest memories, the opportunities the school has given her over the years and the fact that this school really is her home.

The cake was then cut with the help of the founding students and two children from Reception, who had come and presented Mr Foyle with a special 10 year birthday card.

The guests then went on tours of the school and were treated to some excellent 10 themed lessons that were taking place that afternoon. For example, children in Year 2 were learning how to say the number 10 in different languages and decorating their own number 10 biscuits and Year 1 were singing ‘10 in the bed’ and practising counting down from 10 in their Maths lesson!

BISS Puxi students were involved throughout the ceremony: student council representatives greeted guests and talked them through the history of the school, secondary student musicians played beautifully as the gusts arrived, primary dancers entertained the guests with a specially choreographed dance routine themed around the number 10 and led expertly by Year 12 students and the Key Stage 2 Choir took part in the formal ceremony including singing Happy Birthday in English and Chinese.

Mr Foyle commented: “I am proud to be the Principal of such an exceptional school as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary.   Our students are the best testament to the work we do, and seeing the students playing a key role in our formal celebrations, including those founding students who are in their 10th year with us, as well as reflecting on the achievements of our Alumni, really demonstrates our success in terms of producing outstanding individuals.”

This event was just one of the many things that BISS Puxi is doing across the year to celebrate its anniversary. Along with in-school competitions and themed work within class, earlier in the year they hosted 10 Hours of Music, which saw 500 students and staff play and sing non-stop for 10 hours! The school is also hosting a party on Saturday 18 April, which will be a big celebration for the whole school community.
