Canadian Chamber Welcomes Canadian Consul General to Shanghai

At this special Canuck Connection, Canadians and friends welcomed Shanghai’s new Canadian Consul General Rick Savone.

Afterwards, Rick presented a plaque to CanCham Chair Sharon Wong in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the Canadian Chamber in Shanghai. Serving the Canadian chamber as a director on the board since 2008, Sharon has stepped down as Chair after many years of service to the Canadian community.

CanCham also would like to bid Sandy O’Reilly a fond farewell who will be returning to Canada after 9 years in Shanghai. During her time in Shanghai, Sandy has been a great supporter to CanCham and all things Canadian!

The University of Victoria Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Established in 1963, the University of Victoria (UVic) has grown to become a leading research-intensive institution with alumni making a difference around the world.

Throughout the 2012-13 academic year, UVic will be commemorating UVic’s 50 years of excellence. It all gets started in September and UVic wants you there. Be on campus September 28 – 29 for the kick-off of UVic’s 50th anniversary year. There will be special events and activities for alumni and their families.

Catch up with classmates, attend an Alumni Talk, and discover your university all over again. It will be a weekend to remember.

B+H Opens Office in Beijing and Celebrates 20 Years

Research from Queen’s Could Lead to More Cost-Effective Biofuel

New research at Queen’s University in understanding the way bacteria contribute to breaking down biomass could lead to creating more cost-effective biofuel.

Steven Smith and Zhongchao Jia (Biomedical and Molecular Sciences) and Edward Bayer (Weizmann Institute, Israel) co-authors of a recent study, are studying a multi-enzyme bacterial complex called cellulosome, that is highly efficient at degrading biomass. This breaking down of plant cell wall materials reduces plants and trees to sugars used for creating biofuel. More
