Advisory Council

The Advisory Council complements the knowledge and skills of the Board of Directors. It contributes to the effective governance of the Chamber and strengthens relationships with leaders in the Canadian business community in China.

General Manager Soprema China

Olivier is the General Manager of Soprema in China, an international group specialized in providing waterproofing solutions for the construction industry. Olivier was born in Montreal and graduated from McGill University in Engineering. He started early on a global path by doing part of his bachelor degree at Spain’s Salamanca University, one of Europe’s oldest university, and right after graduation he joined the management team of a Canadian medical device company for the acquisition of a company in Italy. Following the takeover, Olivier was directly involved in transferring the company’s activities to Shanghai, creating a base for affordable manufacturing of HIV diagnostic tests for the Chinese market. In 2008, he became the general manager of a Canadian aerospace company aiming to reduce airlines’ carbon footprint through innovative product design. In 2012, Olivier joined Soprema and was appointed to the board of directors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. Olivier is now Vice-Chair of the Chamber.

Former Chair of CanCham Shanghai 2008-2011 CEO of Red Gate International

Mark Ceolin was Chair of CanCham Shanghai’s Board of Directors from 2008 to 2012. During his tenure, the board underwent a transition which included the development of a CSR component, the addition of the Maple Leaf Ball as a yearly event, the re-naming and legitimization of CanCham Shanghai according to the requirements of local law, and placing the activities of CanCham in the media. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, Mark was a faculty member at Ryerson University in Toronto; a position he resigned from to found Red Gate Culture and Communications (a Media-Communications company specializing in film, print and events management) in Toronto and Shanghai. He has lived and worked in Shanghai for six years, most notably co-producing with Shanghai TV and Shaanxi TV, co-founding Fringe Shanghai, and building a solid reputation in the creation of media products for local and international corporations doing business in China.

Richard Choi, a Canadian originally from Shanghai, returned to China in 2004 after completing a Master of Arts degree in international policy and administration from Concordia University. He worked as a trade commissioner at the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai and the Quebec Office in Shanghai, respectively, before becoming the Executive Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai in 2008. Richard, also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from McGill University. He is currently the Chief Representative of the Saskatchewan China Trade and Investment Office.

Sean Goff is General Manager – Asia for both CN and CN Worldwide International and is stationed in Shanghai. For CN, Sean is responsible for integrating opportunities in Asia for CN’s North American railway and logistics franchise. Sean is additionally responsible for CN Worldwide International’s sales and operations in Asia including its operations in China (Beijing, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Tianjin) as well as agency offices in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Korea. With 25 years experience at CN, Sean has held a variety of positions including Director of International Sales for CN’s Intermodal business unit and Director of both Sales & Service for CN’s regional carload, bulk and Intermodal business

Robert Martin is the former Head of Asia for the BMO Financial Group. He is currently in the process of setting up Robert Martin & Associates, a consulting firm based in Shanghai. Since 1980, Mr. Martin has held a variety of positions at the Bank of Montreal in International Banking. In 1981 he was Account Manager, Financial Institutions, Tokyo, Japan. He was Regional Manager, Financial Institutions and Governments, Hong Kong Branch in 1984; Senior Manager Financial Institutions, Tokyo Branch, Japan in 1987 and Vice-President and Manager of the Seoul Branch, South Korea in 1989. In 1992 he was Managing Director of the Bank’s relationships with international financial institutions and governments in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Martin received his BA in French Literature from North Texas University in 1969, a Diplôme Supérieur in Chinese Language and Civilization from the University of Paris (Sorbonne) in 1976 and his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. Mr. Martin studied at the Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Center from 1976-78.

Guy Mills is President and CEO of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance – a joint venture between Manulife Financial Corporation and Sinochem Group.

Guy has been with Manulife Financial since 1995 and prior to relocating to Shanghai served in various general management, operations and information technology roles with Manulife in Canada, USA, Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Guy has previously been a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and in Manila.

With cross culture business experience and knowledge, Olivia remains active in business and local social organizations as a member of CanCham, AmCham, and Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association.
